FAQ
- I'm a member of WUGRAV; how do I obtain a Globus certificate?
Log on to harpo.wustl.edu and execute the grid-cert-request command.
This command should be in the default path provided by the system. The
grid-cert-request command will prompt you to enter a Globus pass phrase;
make this a good, secure one and remember it well. The command will then
create a key file .globus/userkey.pem and a certificate request file
.globus/usercert_request.pem. The certifcate request file should be emailed
to ca@globus.org. In the message be sure to place an email signature so that
the Globus CA can recognize the source of the request. Also, the file should
be mailed from your usual email machine, i.e., one at which you can receive
the response. Thus you may need to scp or ftp the request file off of harpo.
The Globus CA will email your Globus Certificate within two working days.
When the response comes, save the email to a file "usercert.pem" and store
this alongside the userkey.pem in the .globus directory on harpo.
- I'm a member of WUGRAV; how do I load a proxy onto the ASC organization's MyProxy server?
Log on to harpo.wustl.edu and execute the myproxy-init command.
This command should be in your default path, and the environment variable
MYPROXY_SERVER should be already set to myproxy.ascportal.org .
This ensures that the ASC organizational server will be used. The myproxy-init
command will prompt you for your Globus (or Alliance) pass phrase. After entering this,
it will prompt you for a separate pass phrase to protect the proxy that will be
loaded onto myproxy.ascportal.org.
- How do I get an Alliance Certificate?
The full online instructions for obtaining an Alliance Certificate
are located on the
Alliance Virtual Machine Room pages.
In short, one gets started by logging on to an Alliance resource
such as modi4.ncsa.uiuc.edu
(front end to the NCSA O2000 system) or ll03.alliance.unm.edu
(login node for the Los Lobos Linux Supercluster) and run the ncsa-cert-request
command. The ncsa-cert-request command is an Alliance specific command that
replaces the standard Globus command grid-cert-request on Alliance resources.
The output generated from running ncsa-cert-request gives instructions on
how to complete the certificate application process.
- I've forgotten my certificate password?
Please don't forget your certificate password.
- I've forgotten my portal proxy password; what can I do?
Portal proxies lead a fairly transient existence; if you've forgotten
the passphrase that protects a portal proxy the simplest course
is to use the myproxy client command myproxy-destroy to remove
the present one from the server and then load a fresh proxy with
a new passphrase onto myproxy.ascportal.org via myproxy-init .
In the present version of Myproxy, you will need to have already
obtained an Alliance/Globus credential on the client machine via
grid-proxy-init before running the myproxy-destroy command.
