General Information About WUGRAV

Members of WUGRAV (the Washington University Gravity Group) study General Relativistic Astrophysics- the study of astrophysical phenomena requiring Einstein's theory of general relativity. To study these phenomena, we use both analytic techniques and supercomputer simulations. In particular, investigations on the emission of gravitational waves in collisions of black holes and/or neutron stars will aid us in understanding results from the detection of gravitational waves (see LIGO and VIRGO ), as well as other interesting observations in X-ray and Gamma-ray astronomies (for X-ray, see AXAF and for Gamma-ray, see here).

Many of our projects are carried out in collaboration with the Albert Einstein Institute in Potsdam, NCSA Relativity Group at the University of Illinois, the astrophysics theory group in Hong Kong, and many other groups around the world. (For an introduction to general relativity and supercomputer simulations of colliding black holes, see NCSA's exhibit, "Spacetime Wrinkles.")

However, the best way to get a sense of what we do is to browse through this site. Thank you for visiting WUGRAV!
