NASA Neutron Star Grand Challenge Project

A multi-purpose 3D code for
computational general relativistic astrophysics

The goal of this project is to build a multi-purpose 3D code for computational general relativistic astrophysics that makes efficient use of massively parallel computers. The simulation of coalescing neutron stars is used as a driver for the development of this code.

The latest version of the code GR3D_EOS adds tabular equation of state (EOS) treatment to GR3D, which contains the full set of the Einstein Equations coupled to the full set of the relativistic hydrodynamic equations. It is capable of constructing the complete spacetime in the presence of relativistic matter described by a tabular equation of state in dynamic evolution. We include in GR3D_EOS a sample tabular equation of state based on the Lattimer-Swesty equation of state.
