Another thought about the high freq noise in the neutron star runs:  could
it be that the absolute threshold for the elliptic solver is bigger than
the truncation error? Note that the threshold refers to the absolute l2
norm of the residuum. For "relative" error control, one can set
maximal_factau2 = 1.0, say, which forces the l2 norm of the residuum to
become smaller or equal to this factor times the l2 norm of the truncation
error tau. 

Mark, could you send me the parameter file of your Misner run?
